Section Hike on the Pacific Crest Trail – Day 4

August 4th, 2021 – Day 4

Grizzly Peak to Lake Valhalla. It was a beautiful walk in the woods. The previous night’s rainstorm temporarily cleared the smoke out of the air. It seemed all the colors of the flora/fauna were extra bright. The entire day was just so gorgeous. The sky was bluer than it had been in days.  The eerie smoky haze was replaced by the vibrant green and brown colors of the forest.

My hike seemed to be easier than it had been in days.  I don’t know if it was because the smoke was gone for the day or the shorter hiking day the previous day. It was probably a combination of things.

Lake Valhalla was enchanting. The crystal clear water was the perfect temperature for swimming. I didn’t bring a swimsuit, so I went wading. As the water flowed around me, the sensation of cooling flowing water soothed my muscles as it washed over my legs. I didn’t want to leave.

Look at the blue sky!
One of my favorite pictures.

More Rocks.

Yes, this is the path. Straight though the rocks.

Just WOW!

This hiker had previously hiked the Appalachian Trail and was finishing the Pacific Crest Trail.  I told him I was thinking I might want to do the AT. We talked at length about the differences between the two.  After our conversation, I was more convinced than ever I wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail.

The day couldn’t be lovelier.

View from my tent!
