Atlanta Georgia to Madrid Spain

backpack and shoes

Mark and I left the Embassy Suites about 10:30am. We waited in the airport for check-in. The Spanish Covid safety report was unbelievably difficult. I tried to fill it out 4 separate times at the hotel from my phone. I couldn’t figure it out. The United gate agent finally filled it out for me. It took her about an hour. She couldn’t do it from my phone either. Thank goodness she was able to do it. I wouldn’t be sitting on this airplane without it. Mark checked into his flight and was able to come to my gate. We said our goodbyes. I will miss him. It was so nice to be able to spend some time together.

My plane from Atlanta was late. If the Newark plane wasn’t so late, I would have missed it. I’m now a bit worried about my Frankfurt connection. Here’s to hoping the Madrid plane is late too. This Lufthansa airplane is huge. A Boeing 747-8. I also have a whole row to myself. I can’t believe I lucked out! Most of the plane is crowded.

The Frankfurt airport is a bit confusing. I got to my gate 15 minutes before boarding. Boarding involved getting on a bus/tram and the other side of the airport. It was about a twenty minute drive. I have a middle seat this time. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. I’m so lucky to have had a row to myself on the longest leg of my flights.

My backpack is lost in transit! I’m very fortunate that I wore clothes I could hike in. I also have my electronics and toiletries. What I don’t have is my socks, hiking poles, extra outfit, pajamas and sleeping bag. I hope it shows up today or tomorrow.

Alyssa, Michi, and I had a tapas lunch/dinner tonight. Checked into the hotel/hostel Atocha. Very charming room, but a bit small. My knee is hurting tonight so took some ibuprofen. Madrid is really cute. I forgot how nice it is.
