Roncesvalle to Linzoain

13.6 km
Total mileage 38.3 km

Morning started early with the lights being turned on and Gregorian Chant singing  through the sound system. I thought the music was lovely, Alyssa and Michi, not so much.  I believe the word torturous was used, lol.

After getting ourselves ready for the day, we walked a short distance to Hotel Roncesvalle again for breakfast. Bread, apple, slice of ham, slice of cheese, and cafe con leche.  Michi also had some cake. We were on our way by 8:00am.

Second breakfast in the village of Burkette. Viscarret for another snack and a stop at a grocery store (supermercado). We bought bread (pan), cheese (queso), can of assorted olives and pickles, and a bottle of wine (rioja vino).

Our walk today was easier than yesterday. And a hundred times easier the Appalachian Trail! There were some ascents and steep descents, but nothing was too long or difficult.

We are spending the night at a quaint hostel/hotel called Posada El Camino.  The building was built in 1839 and has been extensively renovated to be modern and comfortable hotel. We are in a private room that has three beds.

My new socks from St. Jean Pied-de-Port worked well the first few days. Today, well they were not great.  I just washed them and hope they tighten up again. I don’t want to risk getting blisters. We hand-washed our clothes today and hung them on the clothesline outside in the bright sunshine.

Dinner at the hotel/hostel consisted of soup, pasta and some sort of a thin pork piece. The food was just okay.

A South Korean couple sat at our table and they were very nice.
