Our guests this weekend were Mary and Roy Sebring. They were wonderfully enthusiastic about sailing. This sail was filled with gusts of unpredictable wind and taught us we need to learn to reef the sails.
We started out with a lasagna lunch in the main salon and didn’t have any problems getting underway. The skies were blue with clouds that looked interesting in pictures. As soon as we got the sails up we knew we were in for a wild ride. The winds were very unpredictable with gusts, Something we aren’t used to when we have sailed in the past. Luckily, we headed northwest on a beam reach, which meant that the sailboat did not heel over and the winds pushed us quickly towards hat island. The weather didn’t turn wet and we enjoyed the sun breaks. We had a lot of fun socializing.
When the wind gusts started up again, it was getting late in the afternoon so we took the sails down and headed back in. Mary and Roy assured us they were having a good time so I was relieved about that. We don’t want to scare away our friends! After docking, we sat in the salon and chatted while we had some hors d’oeuvres, leftovers from lunch, and wine. All in all, a fine sailing day with family and friends.
