July 4th, 2014 Weekend

The Jeanne Marie ready to sail

Well, our first sail was an adventure with a large learning curve.  A 37.5 foot boat has a lot of surface area for currents and waves to push it along and a lot of sails for the winds to make it speed through the water.  Add in a sudden storm that seemed to pop up out of nowhere and an inexperienced crew and it was a bit scary.  Luckily, no harm came to the crew or the sailboat and we made it back to port.

We learned our neighbors on the docks were so very friendly and helpful.  They helped us dock our boat.  We were able to reciprocate later helping another boat dock when it came in.  The slip in Everett Marina where the Jeanne Marie is now docked is a FUN place to be during the 4th of July.  Everywhere you looked there was a party going on.  Mark and I watched a spectacular fireworks show from the bow of the sailboat.

First time using the Magma grill.  A true northwest BBQ in the rain.

Getting ready for cocktail hour

Mark had to refurl the jib sail when the winds calmed down

Early morning in the marina

This little harbor seal popped his head up to say hi!

Our first formal meal in the sailboat!
After spending the weekend on the boat it’s time to go home…
