September 21st Sail, Last Day of Summer

Sunday was another beautiful day weather wise to end the summer.  Light breezes filled the sails as we gently glided across the water.  There were numerous sailboats out yesterday doing exactly what we were doing.  Relaxing and enjoying the sun before the cool weather comes in the next few months.  It was fun to see all the different sailboats out there.  Very peaceful.

We got another picture of our sailboat.  We were gliding along close to another boat so I again yelled over with my picture offer.  I took pictures of the Toucan and they sent me this picture.

The Jeanne Marie

The sea lions were on the buoy to greet us as we left the port and to welcome us back.  We saw one harbor seal that popped his head up off the starboard bow as we were sailing along.  We also saw what appeared to be a sea lion or sea lions catching a fish close to another sailboat.  We were too far back to see it clearly and didn’t have time to get out the binoculars.  The sea lion surfaced a bunch of times because we saw a large black blob breaching out of the water.  One sailboat got a fantastic experience and story to tell.  I hope they got pictures too.  Some of the best days sailing are the days you see sea life.  It adds so much to the happiness of being out on our gorgeous waters.

The wind increased at the end of the day and it made for a harried entrance into our slip.  Our first attempt was abandoned due to the wind.  The second attempt was successful because a couple of our neighbors a few boats away saw us, and came over to help.  We can’t say enough nice things about how helpful, kind, and friendly all of our dock neighbors are.  We try to reciprocate as much as we can when we see other boats docking.  If they weren’t there, we would have docked at the guest slip.  The winds calmed down within a few hours and then the boat could be docked at our slip.
We met Kathy and Dana at Anthony’s for dinner at 5:30.  It was so nice to see them again!  We got to hear some stories about Shanghai, Disney, and Chinese culture.  After dinner we went to the Jeanne Marie to give Kathy a tour and then watched the movie Dana filmed last weekend about our sail.  He did such a great job!  I’m naming Dana our official filmmaker of the Jeanne Marie!!!!!  ðŸ™‚  Wish we could have spent more time talking with them.  Mark and I would love to hear more about China and Disneyland.  There never seems to be enough hours in the weekend.  However, we were thankful for the time we were able to spend with them and are looking forward to seeing them again when their time is finished in China.
Yesterday was a wonderful end to the last day of summer.

Unofficial greeters to Port Gardner

Fenders (floaties) are up!

This looked like a toy boat.  Red sail and what appeared to be a blue hull.
