Len Foote Hike Inn to Springer Mountain Shelter

5 miles from the Hike Inn to Springer Mountain Shelter.

The weather today was in the mid 50’s. I couldn’t ask for a better climate to start my hike.

I woke up early at the Hike Inn and watched the sunrise. Ate a delicious breakfast and set off on my hike at 9:15am.

I made it to the plaque on Springer Mountain by lunchtime. The plaque is the official start of the Appalachian Trail. There was a group of Florida State University students eating lunch at the summit. They invited me to join them so I did. The students were on a weekend camping trip. What a delightful group of young people.

After lunch, I hiked a short while and came to the Springer Mountain Shelter. I set up my tent, got water, took some pictures and then relaxed until bedtime.

I use my Sawyer Squeeze to filter water.
