We sailed last night to escape the warm weather. It was the fourth day in a row of high temperatures. I was doing okay until I made dinner. Too much time in the kitchen. Anyway – I talked Mark into sailing so we could cool off. It didn’t take much talking… The temperature dropped 10 degrees when we drove into the marina. Ahhh…cool weather…

Kite-Surfers off Jetty Island |

Kayaker off Jetty Island |
After sailing to the south end of Jetty Island and almost out into Possession Sound, we decided to stay in the Port Gardner area. The swell on the waves were high and the wind was heeling the boat quite a bit. We’re fairly sure the waves would’ve calmed down when we were past the seawall. We were happy to be cooled off and wanted a smooth sail so we came about and sailed north. Kite-Surfers were abundant off Jetty Island. We even saw a kite-surfer paddling on his board going from Jetty Island to the public dock. We weren’t close enough to get a picture. This is the second time we’ve seen one and I hope to get a picture sometime. It is amazing to see someone standing on a board with a single oar paddling across the water. I don’t have that kind of balance.

Beacon 7 |
The wind was blowing gently but consistently so we sailed to the north end of Jetty Island without too much trouble. We’ve never sailed up there but we walked it last month with the Harpers. That was the day we weren’t on a marked path. We saw a kayaker and he was keeping up with the speed our boat was going.

Sunset on Port Gardner |
After tacking around the beacon we decided to head back to the marina. The sun is setting earlier. I took this picture after we had docked and the sun had gone down.
