Section Hike on the Pacific Crest Trail – Day 1

A seed was starting to grow in my mind last July about the Appalachian Trail. I discussed it with Mark but, I wasn’t sure I was capable of doing it.

A couple months previously, I attempted to hike a section of the Pacific Crest Trail, starting at the southern terminus in the California desert. Big mistake for someone who hates hot weather! I lasted three days. After that fiasco, I thought I was done backpacking. Months later, in August, in an attempt to prove to myself I wasn’t a wimp or a quitter, I planned another backpacking trip. It would be still on the Pacific Crest Trail. However, this time, it was in my beautiful home state of Washington, the evergreen state. It might be sweltering out, but a lot of the trail was shaded. Therefore, it was bearable. My hiking adventure lasted for five days and everything went brilliantly. I was content and had the time of my life.

August 1st, 2021 – Day 1

My solo 5 day backpacking trip in the Cascade Mountains. I did a Partial K section hike on the Pacific Crest Trail.

Mark and the doxies dropped me off at Steven’s Pass.

Mark and the dachshunds getting a short walk.

I tasted a couple of the fresh blueberries and thought it was heaven. Later, it dawned on me, we the hikers, should be leaving all berries for the animals.  Forest animals don’t have access to grocery stores. They aren’t carrying their meals around in a bear canister like we do. I now have a new perspective.

I cannot believe how stunning this hike is.
Outstanding water sources

Vistas for miles and miles

Father/Daughter thru-hikers that started at Mexican border. She was very homesick.
They were quitting there and going home. She was going to college in a few weeks and missed her mom and siblings too much.

My stealth camping site for the night.
