Pamplona to Cizur Menor

5.2 km
Total 72.4 km

I woke up early to a restless night of sleep. I think the coffee and hot chocolate late yesterday kept me up. I will try not to repeat that mistake in the future. My fitbit recorded only 4.5 hours sleep last night.

I was able to see the beautiful yellow fields in person today. It was a very pleasant hike/walk with the stunning scenery. I stopped at the Pamplona Universidad de Navarra and got a sello (stamp) for my pilgrim passport. They were closed for the Easter holiday, but a person took our pilgrim passport through an open window and stamped it. I will miss the Semana Santa celebrations in Pamplona. Lucky for me I was able to attend Semana Santa in Sevilla in 1984. Sevilla’s celebration is supposed to be the nicest in Spain.

I decided to hike a short day today due to my lack of sleep. I had no idea it would be mentally challenging. The albergues that were supposed to be open in Cizur Menor were no longer operating. I walked around for about an hour in this very small village to no avail. Finally, I called Alyssa and she was able to secure me a room in an Airbnb about a mile from the camino. It was in a charming neighborhood. The room itself was cluttered with many personal possessions. I was okay with that since it was clean. There was one thing, however, I was not keen about. The bedspread was full of fur. There was some furry blanket at the end of the bed that I am assuming was the cause.  My black leggings looked like they had been attacked by a furry teddy bear. I ended up changing and pulling the bedspread off. Luckily the sheets were just fine. It would take me a week of washing to get the fur off my leggings, lol.

I went to the grocery store after receiving directions from the Airbnb host. It wasn’t too far away. I’m trying to speak Spanish as often as I can. I bought food for dinner and tomorrow’s lunch. Early to bed while listening to the church bells from Pamplona.
