July 26th, Sailing with the Hansens
I forgot to keep the horizon level because we are heeling about 30 degrees |
Today was our first sail in which we invited guests. Sue and Mike Hansen were happy to respond to our invitation. We met them at the dock at 1:00 pm. After a brief snack of bruschetta, we were underway.
Our sail for the day took us around Gedney Island aka Hat Island. We swung very wide around Hat Island and after tacking around the south and west side of the island we were able to “run” most of the way back to Everett. Once again, this is a very fast sailboat in comparison to the first (24 ft) Jeanne Marie. I think she may sail faster than when she is under power.
We had a few minor incidents along the way. The main outhaul had come loose at the connection and had to be put back on so the main mast was lowered briefly and then put back up again. Then there is the ever present docking issue… the wind was really strong when we finished our sail. It was challenging to dock, but we got it done.
