Unicoi Gap to Cheese Factory site

4 miles

Total 56.2 miles

I got a late start out of Helen, Georgia. I contacted a shuttle driver for the ride back to Unicoi Gap. She couldn’t pick me up until 9am. I started my hike at 9:30am. While I was waiting for my shuttle I had coffee in a cute café called Schatzies. Schatz means sweetheart in German.

The shuttle driver told me the next 30 miles are tough. I’m taking her advice with a grain of salt. Each mile is tough for me. I am slow hiker, yet a capable one. I certainly don’t want to jinx myself, but there hasn’t been anything I can’t handle if I take my time.

The sun was shining today and the trail is starting to come to life. The different mosses and ferns were a vibrant green. It reminded me a little of Washington.
